"Origins of the Future" -
Special Show for tenth Anniversary of EUROGUSS
The tenth anniversary of EUROGUSS, the trade fair for the die casting value chain, is an occasion to celebrate - among other things with a special anniversary show in the entrance area of NCC Ost. The historical products and tools on display represent a milestone in the history of die casting and are evidence of the development and innovativeness of the whole industry and individual companies and institutions. At EUROGUSS itself, visitors can see the current state of the art in the industry from 14-16 January 2014 in Nürnberg.
"Origins of the Future" - this saying is also true of die casting, which will become very clear at the tenth anniversary of EUROGUSS. To mark the occasion, NürnbergMesse in cooperation with exhibitors has arranged a special anniversary show of historical exhibits. Whereas the exhibition shows present-day die casting, the special show takes a look back at products and tools of earlier times: the historical review covers 70 exhibits. The future of the industry, however, is the subject of the opening ceremony on the eve of the exhibition, when the winners of the International Aluminium Die Casting and Zinc Die Casting Competitions will be presented and receive their prizes. The noted future researcher Dr. Pero Mi?i?, President of the FutureManagementGroup AG, also speaks at the opening ceremony and in his power presentation on amazing trends and technologies describes the possibilities for companies to recognize the markets of the future and survive in them.
Besides the historical machines and tools, the cast products themselves, which can be used in a wide variety of different areas, can be seen at the show. The mechanical engineering and automotive industry, the furniture and building industry, household goods, and the textile industry - the possible applications are many and varied, as Heike Slotta, Director Exhibitions at NürnbergMesse, explains: "We would like the special anniversary show to give visitors a comprehensive overview of die castings. We are often not even aware of where we encounter cast objects in everyday life. The products include razors, nutcrackers and mousetraps just as much as zips, furniture hardware and sewing machine housings. We naturally provide interesting facts and background information about the exhibits for our visitors. " Not to be forgotten is the "BIG BABY", a truck gearbox housing also called the "elephant's loo", which with a weight of some 50 kilograms is known as the world's heaviest die casting to date. The smallest brass die casting in the world, a cord holder for holding and guiding a steel rope, can also be admired.
The special show also covers the development of low-gas die casting, with posters and specimen weldings that impressively show the past 20 years of development of welded and heat-treated die castings.
Historical machines, tools and die castings
The special show deals with all aspects of the die casting value chain. For example, visitors can admire a reproduction of an early die casting machine. Old barrel taps cast with this machine and photos of the foundry and employees from the early days of this die casting foundry complete the picture. Visitors can follow the development of die casting technology on other historical die casting machines with the appropriate equipment, the oldest die casting mould still in use that dates back to 1946, and relevant historical castings.Besides the historical machines and tools, the cast products themselves, which can be used in a wide variety of different areas, can be seen at the show. What actually is die casting?
In the die casting process, liquid metal is injected under high pressure and at great speed into permanent steel moulds, in which it then solidifies. Metal materials like aluminium, zinc and magnesium are mainly used for this purpose. Due to the use of permanent moulds, die casting is ideally suited for series or mass production. Most of the die castings are structural parts, have smooth surfaces and edges and can have very thin walls, so they help to save weight. The spangest customers for die cast parts are automotive manufacturers.EUROGUSS 2014
