Three full action-packed days
at the "O&S Forum 2014" in Stuttgart (Germany)
When the surface technology sector comes to O&S in Stuttgart from 24 to 26 June, the forum will once again be a central gathering point for sharing expertise, expanding networks and debating today's hottest topics in the sector. For the first time this year, the forum for the international trade fair for surface treatments and coatings is being translated simultaneously into English and German. On each of the three days of the show, every afternoon attendees will be treated to half-hour contributions by experts from major firms and research institutes will offer exciting glimpses into the present and future of surface treatment in Hall 7.
Each afternoon has a specific them at the O&S forum. On Tuesday, 24 June, interactions between substrates and coatings are the center point. Martin Kommer of the Research Institute for Precious Metals and Metals Chemistry (FEM) in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany opens with a presentation on the impact of substrate surface quality on the friction and wear of coated piston pins. He is followed by Klaus Schmid, Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) in Stuttgart, on "Interactions between surface condition and coatability in plastic electroplating," Dr. Andreas Bán, VDEh-Betriebsforschungsinstitut in Dusseldorf, Germany, on "Impact of electrolytic strip galvanizing on roughness and topography of sheet steel" and Dr. Matthias Schneider, Fraunhofer IPA (Stuttgart), on "How does sheet topography impact paint results?"
"Surface technology and energy efficiency" is the theme on Wednesday, 25 June. It is opened by Dr. Yashar Musayev of Schaeffler Technologies from Herzogenaurach, Germany. His topic is energy efficiency via low-friction coatings. Additional speakers are Dr. Volkmar Stenzel, Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM (Bremen, Germany), on "Sharkskin finish for streamlined surfaces," Stefan Kölle, Fraunhofer IPA Stuttgart, on "Ökoxal: a process to cut energy use in half in hard anodization" and Wolfgang Klein, Fraunhofer IPA Stuttgart, about energy efficiency in paint coating technology.
On the final day of the fair, Thursday, 26 June, the focus is on business processes in surface technology. Opening is Dr. Roger Hillert, Volkswagen (Wolfsburg, Germany) on OEM planning processes and consequences for surface technology. Additional presentations on that day are given by Klaus Schmid, Fraunhofer IPA Stuttgart: "Balancing capacity and flexibility in the planning of electroplating facilities" and Thomas Wochinger, Fraunhofer IPA Stuttgart: "Cyclic manufacturing - Flow processing and high transparency for order fulfillment by small to medium-size contract coating businesses." The user forum is organized by Fraunhofer IPA in Stuttgart with the support of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA).
Wednesday and Thursday morning, the forum area is devoted to the Surface Technology Process Chain special presentation, an extension of the earlier Contract Coating Marketplace. Visitors can enjoy the following presentations on Wednesday morning: Renate Welcker, Hommel + Keller Surface Technology, "High-tech at micrometer scale - applications for PVD coatings," Hans-Ulrich Vogler, VLM, "Corrosion climate-change tests - A challenge for users and instrumentation," Dr. Christina Bauder, Fraunhofer IPA, "Zinc phosphate replacement technology in automotive construction - Corrosion protection in multi-metal processing" and Dr. Malte-Matthias Zimmer, Eupoc, "Practical challenges and limits for REACH approval preparation." Thursday's presentations are: Dr. Sascha Berger, Umicore Galvanotechnik, "Cobalt-free hard gold electroplating," Thomas Frey, IMO Oberflächentechik, "Using modern selective techniques in electroplating," Dave Elliot, Surface Engineering Association SEA (Birmingham, Great Britain), "REACh - UK Advocacy and the quest for substitution," Godfrey Evans, Swinton Electroplating (Manchester, Great Britain), "Hard chrome - Protecting our Environment" and Dr. Malte-Matthias Zimmer, Eupoc, "Status of post-REACH approvals: chrome trioxide applications." Surface Technology Process Chain and the related forum program are organized by Herbert Käszmann, WoTech.
This year for the first time, O&S is being held together with parts2clean, the flagship trade fair for cleaning of industrial components and surfaces. O&S and parts2clean border one another in Hall 7, where the forums for both fairs also take place. The program for the parts2clean 2014 Forum comprises presentations on cleaning processes including special processes and media and their handling, requirements for surfaces before coating and joining, process solution case studies, up- and downstream processes and analytics - from foundations, methods and procedures to the products and their applications. One theme block at the parts2clean Forum is organized by the Industrial Parts Cleaning Association (FiT) and covers quality control in industrial parts cleaning. The parts2clean Forum has simultaneous German-English interpreting.
O&S 2014
from 24 to 26 June 2014, Fair ground Stuttgart (Germany)
O&S, parts2clean, LASYS, Automotive Expo 2014
O&S, as the flagship trade fair for surfaces and coatings, presents a wide range of surface technology disciplines. These include the topics of electroplating, paint coatings, industrial plasma and laser surface technologies, heat processing, custom coating and analysis, measurement and testing technology. parts2clean, LASYS and Automotive Expo are held parallel to O&S 2014 at the Stuttgart exhibition center. As the flagship trade fair for cleaning of industrial components and surfaces, parts2clean brings together nearly all market and technology leaders in these fields. These include plants, procedures and process media, and their preparation for degreasing and cleaning, the de-burring and pre-treatment of components, goods containers and workpiece holders, handling and process automation, clean-room technology, corrosion protection, preservation and packaging, job cleaning, quality assurance and test methods and analytical procedures. LASYS is the flagship trade fair for laser materials processing, and AUTOMOTIVE Expo combines a number of trade shows in the automotive sector.
